Description
The mineral resources of Adams County, an area of about 528 square miles in south-central Pennsylvania, are explored in this report. At the time of publication, the mineral resources of the county were moderately developed, and those that had been exploited at one time or another included building stone, granulated greenstone, limestone, clay and shale for brick manufacturing, vein quartz, brown iron ore, and magnetite. The text has major sections on nonmetallic products and metalliferous deposits, and the author included descriptions of resources, such as ornamental stone, that had yet to be developed. Plate 1 of the report is a 1:125,000-scale, color geologic (lithologic units) map showing the locations and types of recently active quarries and mines, as well as prospect pits and abandoned quarries and mines.
