Description:This map, which was part of an atlas that accompanied the final report of the Second Pennsylvania Geological Survey, shows the geology and topography of most of Bucks and Montgomery Counties in southeastern Pennsylvania. Printed in 1893 for E. K. Meyers, state printer, at a scale of 1 inch = 1 mile, the map is credited to Benjamin Smith Lyman, the geologist who did the bulk of the geologic mapping. The titled map consists of two sets of two sheets. One set (sheets 10–11) shows the geology in color on a topographic base map, and the other set (sheets 12–13) is uncolored, showing only the topography. Images of all four sheets are included in the download, which also contains a composite of the first two sheets. The work includes two inset maps, one showing railroads in Pennsylvania and surrounding areas, and the other showing names of places in and around the two counties. In addition to the geologic units, the geologic map has unnumbered 1,000-foot structure contours that “show the shape of the bottom of each set of shales, or trap.” Identifying information was printed on the reverse side of each sheet, and these marks can be seen bleeding through the scanned images.
