Description:This handy, page-size map shows the distribution of limestone and dolomite in Pennsylvania. Solid blue and line patterns of blue are used to distinguish areas underlain by (1) generally steeply dipping limestone, dolomite, or both, (2) flat-lying, generally thin limestone beds, and (3) generally flat lying Vanport Limestone (a high-calcium limestone). The reverse side of the map sheet has a brief discussion of carbonate rocks—associated hazards, use as a mineral resource, and potential as a source of water and as a conduit for groundwater contamination.
