Description
This report covers an area in central and eastern York County in south-central Pennsylvania. It comprises three map plates with text and photographs on each plate. The maps are 1:50,000 scale and show geology and mineral resources, engineering geology, and groundwater availability. Each plate provides users with easy-to-understand interpretations of the influence and impacts of the bedrock underfoot. In addition to a description of 30 different age-based geologic units, the geologic-mineral resource plate includes information on soils formation, landform, groundwater, and the potential for specific mineral resource products. The engineering geology plate regroups the 30 geologic units into six predominate rock types. For each rock type, various engineering characteristics are defined, including drainage characteristics, cut-slope stability, ease of excavation, and foundation stability. The final plate puts the 30 geologic units into four hydrologic groups defined by their potential to yield groundwater. A table on the map summarizes well characteristics (e.g., well depth and yield) and the basic chemical quality of the groundwater in each hydrologic unit.
