Description:This report describes surface and subsurface bedrock geology of the Donegal 15-minute quadrangle in southwestern Pennsylvania. A 1:62,500-scale geologic map shows surface rocks ranging from Mississippian through Lower Permian. The text describes these rock units in detail and also describes subsurface Devonian rocks. Other topics covered in the text include physiography, structural geology, and the economic resources, which include coal, natural gas, clay and shale, and to a lesser degree, limestone, sandstone, iron, and water. The plate with the geologic map also has a stratigraphic column and geologic cross section. Other plates are of core-boring records, a map of the Brookville coal reserves, and a map of the Lower Kittanning coal reserves (reserves are shown as measured and indicated thicknesses at 1:62,500 scale). Proximate coal analyses are also included for coal beds.
