Description
This publication is part of a series of open-file reports (OF 96–01 through OF 96–18) on the surficial geology of 18 quadrangles in York, Lancaster, and Chester Counties in southern Pennsylvania. Each report includes a 1:24,000-scale, black-and-white surficial geologic map of its quadrangle and a text that is shared with the other reports. Some of the main text topics are bedrock geology, geomorphology, surficial deposits, geologic history, mineral resources, and environmental aspects. Each map was based on limited fieldwork and interpretation of aerial photographs. The map for this report shows the surficial geology of the Safe Harbor 7.5-minute quadrangle in Lancaster and York Counties. The mapped units include landfill waste; alluvium; terrace deposits; colluvium; alluvium and colluvium, undivided; schist bedrock and colluvium, undivided; carbonate residuum; rock upland; and rock.
