Description:Detailed report on the geology and mineral resources of the Temple and Fleetwood 7.5-minute quadrangles located in Berks County in southeastern Pennsylvania. The report consists of a text with figures and tables, and two plates. Plate 1 shows a 1:24,000-scale geologic map with cross sections. The southeastern third of the mapped area consists of hills of Precambrian gneiss and Lower Cambrian quartzite that form part of the Reading Prong. It is flanked to the northwest by valleys developed on Cambrian and Ordovician carbonates, which were complexly folded and thrust faulted. Plate 2 has two 1:48,000-scale maps: one is a tectonic map showing major geologic structural features, and the other map shows major environmental geology factors (e.g., floodplains, steep slopes, or underlying rock types that pose risk). The geologic risks are explained in length on the second plate. Major text topics include stratigraphy, structure (complex geologic structures such as nappes, klippes, and thrust plates occur in this area), environmental and engineering geology, and mineral resources. Mineral production is discussed from a historical and current perspective.
