Description
This report starts with a brief history of the Summit gas pool, which opened in 1936 and is under the crest of Chestnut Ridge, 4.5 miles southeast of Uniontown in Fayette County. The author presents comprehensive logs of drill cuttings from two wells—one extending 6,690 feet below the surface, and the other extending 8,159 feet below the surface. There are sections on the subsurface stratigraphy (which includes the logs and a discussion of the Mississippian-Upper Devonian contact), the geologic structure in the area of the Summit gas pool, the reservoir rock (predominantly the Onondaga Formation but also the Oriskany Sandstone), production and reserves, drilling costs, and other favorable structures in the surrounding area.
