Description: | This is a detailed report on the petrology, stratigraphy, and structural geology of Precambrian rhyolites and basalts; Lower Cambrian graywackes, sandstones, and quartzites; and Cambrian and Ordovician carbonate rocks in portions of Adams, Cumberland, and Franklin Counties, approximately midway between Chambersburg and Gettysburg. The report includes a 1:24,000-scale bedrock geologic map of parts of the Scotland, Caledonia Park, and Arendtsville 7.5-minute quadrangles. The relationship between the geology observed in the immediate study area and the overall geologic history of the region is discussed. A lengthy appendix describes the petrography of each major unit in detail, accompanied by many photomicrographs to illustrate the features described. |
