Description
Detailed report describing the geology and mineral resources of the Chambersburg and part of the Scotland 7.5-minute quadrangles in the Great Valley section of what is now called the Ridge and Valley physiographic province. The area is predominantly underlain by folded and faulted Cambrian and Ordovician carbonates and the Ordovician Martinsburg shale. Major text topics include stratigraphy, structural geology, mineral resources, and environmental geology (groundwater resources and engineering characteristics), and there is an appendix with descriptions of measured sections from four localities. There are two plates: Plate 1 has a 1:24,000-scale geologic map and two cross sections, and Plate 2 shows correlated stratigraphic sections of the Pinesburg Station Formation and upper part of the Rockdale Run Formation (both part of the Ordovician Beekmantown Group).
