Description:Detailed report on the geology and economic resources of an area that covers much of eastern Pike County in northeastern Pennsylvania. The bedrock in the area is Devonian sedimentary rock (mostly shales, siltstones, and sandstones) and on the whole, dip gently to the northwest. The report consists of an illustrated text and two plates. Main text topics include stratigraphy, structure, geologic history, and economic resources. Two appendices contain (1) a list of localities with good exposures (also shown on the bedrock geologic map plate) and (2) descriptions of eight measured stratigraphic sections. Plate 1 shows a 1:62,500-scale bedrock geologic map and cross section. Plate 2 is a sample log of the Walker Hess #1 exploratory well, which was drilled in the northwest corner of the mapped area, southeast of German Hill. The log shows lithologies and starts in the Lackawaxen Member of the Catskill Formation (labeled Lackawaxen Formation on the log) and extends down to the Buttermilk Falls Limestone, which underlies the Marcellus Formation.
