Description:This is a comprehensive study of Silurian, Devonian, and Mississippian bedrock geology and the surficial geology of two quadrangles in the folded Blue Mountain (formerly part of the Appalachian Mountain section) and Great Valley sections of what is now called the Ridge and Valley physiographic province in eastern Pennsylvania. The report covers stratigraphy, structural geology, environmental geology, and mineral resources (including information about the slate industry that this area is especially known for). The report is extensively illustrated. It includes 24 described stratigraphic sections, 175 figures, and four plates, including separate 1:24,000-scale maps of the bedrock and surficial geology, a large stratigraphic correlation chart, and a 1:24,000-scale map showing the locations of slate quarries and dumps in the Martinsburg Formation.
