Description
In this atlas, the author presents his findings from a detailed investigation of the nature and distribution of rock formations and surficial deposits in a 289-square-kilometer area in the vicinity of Milton, central Pennsylvania. It is the fourth in a series of reports designed to provide information on the geology, mineral resources, and groundwater availability adjacent to the Interstate Route 80 corridor between the North and West Branches of the Susquehanna River. This report was prepared to provide basic data for informed land use decisions, which are important to the future economic growth of the area. Special attention is given to the influence of geologic factors on such environmental and engineering problems as flooding, cut-slope stability, excavation difficulty, and foundation stability. The publication includes a bedrock geologic map with cross sections, a surficial geologic map, and a mineral production map.
