Description
In this report on the groundwater resources of Erie County, the authors describe the occurrence, availability, and quality of groundwater, the geology, the water-bearing characteristics of the aquifers, and the thickness of unconsolidated deposits. Their findings are based on hydrologic data collected in the county from January 1975 through March 1980. Tabulated data are included on the depths, yields, and quality of water from more than 1,700 wells. Glacial outwash and glacial beach deposits are the best aquifers, having the highest well yields and specific capacities. Two plates with 1:62,500-scale maps are included with the report. Plate 1 is a geologic map of the county, showing the locations of selected wells. The map explanation includes a description of the units and their water-bearing properties and water quality. Also on Plate 1 is a 1:250,000-scale map showing the availability of groundwater (three described areas—one of unconsolidated deposits and two of consolidated deposits). Plate 2 has a map showing the thickness of unconsolidated deposits (25- and 100-foot contours), locations of selected wells, and seismic-refraction cross sections (along and across valleys).
