Description
This report is a comprehensive description and inventory of the groundwater resources available in Montgomery County in southeastern Pennsylvania. It consists of a text and two plates. The text starts with an overview of the area (location, geography, population, and land use) and of the hydrologic cycle. It then describes the lithology and structure, water-bearing characteristics, well depths and yields, well location and spacing, and water quality of various subsurface rock units (each of the three formations of the Mesozoic Newark Group, all Paleozoic rocks, igneous rocks, and metamorphic rocks). The final sections of the text look at surface water bodies, the effects man has had on the hydrologic system, the development of wells, and the management of water supplies. Data complementing the text discussion are listed in tables, including sample logs, a record of wells, and a list of chemical analyses. The plates have maps of the county—one showing typical well yields and another showing locations of selected wells.
