Description: | Detailed report of the surface and subsurface rock layers in the Glen Richey and Wallaceton 7.5-minute quadrangles in Centre County, west-central Pennsylvania. Major text topics include stratigraphy, structural geology, and mineral resources. Subsurface stratigraphy discussed in the text extends from the Devonian Helderberg Formation through the Mississippian Pocono Formation. Surface units include rocks from the Pocono through the Pennsylvanian Conemaugh Group. Significant economic mineral resources include coal, clay, shale, building stone, limestone, and sand and gravel, with coal being the most important. There are 15 plates in this publication—a 1:24,000-scale geologic map, several correlated stratigraphic sections, a columnar diagram of surface rocks, several 1:48,000-scale coal reserve maps with measured coal sections, and a 1:48,000-scale map showing the location of measured clay sections. |
