Description
A study of the groundwater resources in the 3,404-square-mile Juniata River basin that includes all or most of Blair, Huntingdon, Juniata, and Mifflin Counties and parts of Bedford, Centre, Fulton, Perry, and Somerset Counties. The report includes information on the uses of groundwater (as related to population and industries), the climate, and hydrology. Both public and private water supplies were examined. There are lengthy sections on groundwater quality and on the water-bearing properties of the Cambrian- through Pennsylvanian-age sedimentary rocks found in this region. Stiff diagrams are used to illustrate the chemical character of the water for many of the formations. Tables of chemical analyses and well records are also included. The report is accompanied by one plate, a 1:250,000-scale geologic map that includes information on well yields and water quality for each stratigraphic unit. The map also shows the locations and identities of water wells, springs, and stream-gaging stations. An inset map shows variations in the median hardness of groundwater.
