Description:This report is a comprehensive description and inventory of the groundwater resources in Adams County, an area underlain by rocks of Precambrian, Cambrian, Ordovician, and Triassic (and lowest Jurassic) age. It includes all three rock classes: igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary, and although domestic supplies of water can possibly be found in all of the geologic units, the yields from diabase, metabasalt, and metarhyolite are usually marginal to inadequate. The text of the report reviews the hydrologic system, hydrogeology, and management of water supplies. The hydrogeology section discusses the geologic setting, geologic and water-bearing characteristics of the rock units, factors that influence the yields of wells, and water quality. Data are presented in 10 tables, including summary tables of well statistics and water measurements, records of wells and springs, and chemical analyses of groundwater. There is a 1:50,000-scale geologic map of the county, showing the locations of wells and springs. The map explanation includes text describing each geologic unit and its hydrologic and engineering properties.
