Description
This is a detailed report on the geology and groundwater resources of Lackawanna County in northeastern Pennsylvania, an area underlain by alluvium, glacial outwash, and bedrock (Devonian through Pennsylvanian). The county includes deep, abandoned anthracite mines and large strip mines. The report consists of a text and three plates. Major text topics include geography, geology, hydrologic cycle, groundwater, mine-water hydrology, and water quality. There are 20 tables, including several with chemical analyses, several with trace-metal analyses, and a record of wells and springs. The plates include a 1:62,500-scale geologic map showing fracture traces and vertical joints, a 1:62,500-scale water-table contour map showing well and spring locations, and a stream map showing the chemical quality of streams during low flow and a graphic display of the chemical loads.
