Description
This report provides a general summary of the geology and groundwater resources of Butler County, an area underlain by alluvium, glacial lake deposits, and bedrock (Mississippian and Pennsylvanian). The report consists of text and one plate. Major text topics include where groundwater is found in unconsolidated deposits and bedrock units (covers origin/distribution and lithology, water-bearing characteristics, well depths and yields, and water quality), development of groundwater supplies, water problems resulting from the activities of man, well construction, and management of water supplies. Tables of data list population for the county from 1920–70, discharge of gaged streams, chemical analyses of groundwater, record of wells, logs of wells, a composite stratigraphic section, and communities having public water supplies. The plate is a generalized, 1:125,000-scale geologic map showing glacial borders, structure contours on the Vanport limestone and Upper Freeport coal, and selected well locations.
