Description:This comprehensive formal report contains a snapshot of the groundwater conditions in Sullivan County before the onset of substantial gas drilling. It replaces in its entirety Open-File Water Resource Report (OFWR) 13–01.0. Text sections cover geologic setting, petroleum resources and industry activity, hydrocarbon development and water-management issues, natural-gas migration, hydrogeologic characteristics of the geologic units, well yield, water use in the county, groundwater occurrence and flow system, and groundwater quality. A highlight of the publication is the appendix, which contains analytical results of predrill groundwater samples collected by Chief Oil and Gas LLC, Chesapeake Appalachia LLC, and the U.S. Geological Survey. The report includes six map plates illustrating aspects of the geology and hydrology of Sullivan County. The appendix and plates are included on the back pages of the PDF file that constitutes the publication.
