Description:This publication summarizes an investigation into the stratified-drift aquifers in the glaciated valleys of Bradford, Tioga, and Potter Counties. In this area, stratified-drift aquifers are the most important source of water for municipal, industrial, and domestic use. The report contains a colored, 1:100,000-scale map on two sheets that shows the geology of the unconsolidated deposits in the valley. Also shown on the map are the extensive data-collection sites and hydrologic cross sections that were created using seismic-refraction techniques. The results of 223 groundwater-quality analyses indicate two major hydrogeochemical zones: an unrestricted groundwater-flow zone containing water of the calcium bicarbonate type and a restricted groundwater-flow zone containing water of the sodium chloride type.
