Description:This atlas report presents the results of a geologic and economic study in the Altoona 15-minute quadrangle in central Pennsylvania. The authors describe the rock types that are present at the surface, the surficial deposits, the mineral resources, and the environmental geology and groundwater resources. The economic mineral resources include fuel (coal and gas) and nonfuel (clay, limestone, lead and zinc) resources; reserve estimates are given for the major coals. The report includes 1:24,000-scale bedrock and surficial geologic maps and 1:48,000-scale coal resource maps.
