Description:This is the second of two reports evaluating the Late Triassic New Oxford Formation as a source of groundwater in Pennsylvania. It gives findings for the formation where it occurs east of the Susquehanna River. The first report (Water Resource Report 21) looks at the formation west of the river. This report describes the geologic characteristics of the New Oxford Formation in northern Lancaster County and the diabase that intruded it. Most of the report is devoted to the hydrology of the formation (principles, occurrence and movement of water, recharge, and discharge), wells (construction methods, depths, yields, and specific capacity), and quality of water. There is a 1:62,500-scale geologic map that shows the locations of wells and springs. Data complementing the text discussion are listed in tables, including records of wells and springs, a summary of chemical analyses, and sample logs.
