Description:This report is a comprehensive description and inventory of the groundwater resources in Lebanon County, an area underlain by many rock units of various types and ages. Domestic supplies of water can be readily attained from all of the geologic units except diabase, rocks (mostly shale) of the Yellow Breeches thrust plate, and the metamorphic rocks of South Mountain. The text of the report reviews the hydrologic system, hydrogeology, and management of water supplies. The hydrogeology section discusses the geologic setting, geologic and water-bearing characteristics of the rock units, well yields and construction characteristics, factors that affect well yield, water-level contours as an indicator of groundwater-flow direction, and water quality. Data are presented in 10 tables, including summary tables of well statistics and water measurements, records of wells and springs, and chemical analyses of groundwater. There is a plate with a 1:50,000-scale geologic map of the county, showing the locations of wells and springs. The map explanation describes each geologic unit and its aquifer characteristics. Also on the plate is a 1:50,000-scale map showing water-level contours in the Lebanon Valley in October 1981 and a small-scale map showing groundwater hardness.
