Description:The region around Williamsport (mostly in Lycoming County but also the adjacent parts of Clinton, Union, and Northumberland Counties) is the focus of this groundwater report. Fractured consolidated rocks ranging in age from Ordovician to Pennsylvanian and unconsolidated deposits of Quaternary age make up the aquifers in the study area. The text offers a basic overview of the geology and a more detailed analysis of the water-bearing and water-quality characteristics of each geologic unit. Tabulated data complement the text discussion and include records of wells and springs, and chemical analyses of groundwater. There is a 1:50,000-scale bedrock geologic map, showing the locations of wells, springs, and stream gages. The map explanation describes each geologic unit and its aquifer characteristics. Another map (scale 1:100,000) shows the general altitude of the water table in valley-fill deposits and the saturated thickness of those deposits in the report area.
