Description:This report examines the groundwater characteristics in northern Berks County in southeastern Pennsylvania, an area underlain by Cambrian, Ordovician, and Silurian rocks and Mesozoic diabase. Major text topics cover the use and availability of water, characteristics of the aquifers, factors affecting well yield and specific capacity, movement of groundwater, quality of water, and sources of water for future use. Records of 900 wells and springs were used in this study, and data derived from those sources appear in 14 tables, including a record of wells, a record of springs, and chemical analyses of groundwater (from wells and from springs). There are two plates with the report. One has a 1:62,500-scale geologic map that shows the locations of wells and springs, and faults. The other has a 1:62,500-scale map showing fracture traces and water-level contours for April 1972, and indicating the change in water-level surface in carbonate rocks from April 1972 to November 1972.
