Description:This report provides a summary of the geology and groundwater resources of Luzerne County in northeastern Pennsylvania, an area underlain by alluvium, glacial drift, and bedrock (Devonian through Pennsylvanian). It consists of a text and one plate. The text covers the hydrologic cycle; the lithology and structure, water-bearing characteristics, well depths and yields, well location and spacing, and water quality for each geologic unit; surface water bodies; changes to the hydrologic system and water problems resulting from the activities of man; the development of wells; and the management of water supplies. Tabular data, including a record of wells and chemical analyses of groundwater, complement the text discussion. The plate is a 1:125,000-scale bedrock geologic map of the county showing the locations of inventoried wells and springs.
