Description:This report summarizes the groundwater resources of Pennsylvania, as based on the six reports that preceded it (Water Resource Reports 1–6). It contains discussions on the population and industrial development of Pennsylvania, water supplies from springs and wells, the geology of the state, water in the rock formations (which includes unconsolidated Coastal Plain and glacial deposits), groundwater quality and quantity, methods of recovery, and problems concerning groundwater supplies. There are two tables. One lists numbers of communities served by public water works, classified by source of water and population (in 1940). The other gives total dissolved solids, total hardness, and iron in the groundwater of various geologic sources. The results are expressed as a percentage of the total number of analyses.
